Dental crowns that are made in the laboratory are usually made from porcelain, which is a very durable material similar to the enamel of the teeth. On the other hand, same day crowns are made from ceramic, which is not as durable as porcelain.
Porcelain crowns have a lifespan of five to 15 years, while same day crowns have a lifespan of five years. However, the same day crown can last longer than five years if it is properly taken care of. Same day crowns also tend to fit more precisely than conventional crowns. That means the patient does not have to worry about going back to the dentist to get the crown refitted, which is something most people with conventional crowns have to worry about.
